Curious what people are using if they are upgrading wipers and wiper motors in their restorations/restomods? I daily drive and doing that sometimes you get caught in the rain and I've found the stock wipers (local auto store replacement "Trico classic" wiper blades) to be garbage for the most part and the motor, while the knob to turn the wipers on would seem fully variable, really only has two speeds too slow to be any good and so fast if its raining that hard the wiper blades don't even work anyway.

I'm hoping for something I could at least keep the wiper knob in the car stock but my google fu is failing and wiper motors are generally not something one includes in a restoration write up.

Man I love this site that wasn't even an hour!

Thanks guys.

Anyone used either? First hand experience?

Or regarding wipers anyone find some good ones that fit or modded different ones to good effect?

The New Port Engineering price is right at $230 and a no-brainer in my estimation. My 63 Impala with stock electric wipers is worthless. Rain X is what I use. I see a New Port unit in the near future.

I have a NewPort 2 speed wiper motor on my 59 Biscuit restomod. Nice compact unit that works and fits well.

Does anyone know if their 2-speed unit can directly replace an original 1-speed? I've tried their online info form, but it gives me an error when I submit it.

I can't see why a New Port unit wouldn't fit where a one or two speed motor was previously. The firewalls are the same.

Apparently the original 1 and 2 speed wiper systems used different linkage arms. So that's why I was wondering. I found the Newport website and sent them a message. We'll see what they say. Thanks.

I used the original one speed linkage arm on the two speed Newport conversion. I don't see why there would be a difference.

I just removed the Newport on my 55, and am replacing it w/ a Raingear.
Not sure if it was a 2 speed.
However, I/we use only the Raingear units, on all of our cars/trucks. Not a single complaint, or failure.

I asked the question a couple of years ago and I got this answer from Verne. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?ti...
Apparently the actual wiper blades are different lengths, as well.

And for those who care, here's the reply I got from Newport regarding 1 vs. 2 speed wipers.

David,

Yes I do believe they had 2 different linkage setups in those cars. Do you have 2 separate linkage arms that stack on top of each other, or just one linkage arm that goes on a shorter pin? We can do either one I just need to know which you have so we get you the correct one the first time.

Thanks

Gavin

Great idea a Raingear System...THAT DOES NOT FIT a 61-64 Impala !!! At least the Newport System is DESIGNED TO FIT an Impala...Jes sayin

I drive my 64 and the 2 speed wipers are way better than the 56 wipers.

I have no issues with them.
Only thing I'll say is I wished it had the water washer.
Rain X does help though.
