I have this sheet metal part that came in a box of misc parts when I got my 59 Impala coupe.
Can someone help me Id it?
Looks like it could be in the engine compartment, or it may not even belong on the car.

That looks like an engine shield which was deleted at some point during the 1960's productions. Hope this helps. Lamar

This is the information on the shield in the Assembly Manual and a picture of my shield. The shield is a two-piece shield. When I checked into why the manual said “CANCELED” and my ’60 has the shields I found out that it was determined that the shields were causing a heat problem so they were discontinued but I am going to reinstall them on mine. Thanks Lamar.
It's interesting that they stopped using it.
Do you suppose that both parts were cancelled?
The front piece may still be on my car... need to check that.

There were also two different pans, depending on whether the car came with a six or v8 engine. The mystery pan appears to fit a six, while PLS's pan is for a V8.

The first pan posted is for either a 6cyl or a 348. The second pan pictured is for a small block.

Thanks Verne! I forgot about the 6/348 pan being the same. It's hell getting old......

As I did a full frame off resto of my 59 that is definitely the rear pan. I don't why they cancelled it I have both pans on my car and so far no problems

Seriously, "hell getting old"?
Try the alternative. I'd think that would be a lot worse.

The way I understand it is that they interferred with the engine cooling. They were finding out that the engines were running too hot with them.

Edit: Like Lamar has first stated. (Didn't catch that till just now, lol).
