Long time lurker and first post. I have a 2008 Silverado that I received a Service 4 wheel drive message. Took to the dealer and had the TCCM flashed for latest software with no improvement. Dash switch and differential switch confirmed good. Dealer says replace the T case motor. I decided to save $$ and replace myself. Problem is the dealer got the T case stuck in 4WD (was stuck in 2WD when I brought in to dealer so I could still drive) I have the NQH T case. I need to know how to shift the T case into neutral after removing the old motor as the new motor ships in neutral and they advise not to attempt to move until installed. The NQH case does not have a shift rod that can be changed with a crescent wrench as in past models but has a gear showing. Anyone tackle this problem? Thanks, Ray

I have combed the web, spoken with 2 manufactures and checked All Data and there is no information on how to manually shift the T case after removing the shift motor. All state to switch the case to neutral before removing the motor but the motor is bad and will not move. I have the NQH T Case and there is no shift rod on the case to turn with pliers or crescent wrench like the 99-07. Only a partially exposed gear in the motor opening. Any ideas at all? Thanks.

I've taken the encoder motors apart on my 06. You can dismantle the motor on those in about 5 minutes after it's out. Then you may be able to use the shaft from the old one to move the transfer case. That would be my redneck idea...lol

I have run into this before.
Think they figure the motor would never fail to where it couldnt turn.
But how else would they fail.
Some say to plugin the new motor without bolting it on and setting it to the position the case is in, but I can say that does not always work.
The last one I did turned by itself until it was out of the clocked area and I had to take apart the motor and manually turn it to the position that the transfer case was in.
I researched the heck out of it and had to figure it out myself.
I was not happy.
I will keep my 4 on the floor any day over this electronic crap.
I might also add that the 2006 is very different than the 2008. Luckily the 2008 is much easier to access and replace as it is on the back of the case

Thanks Wreckmeck, that is the only solution I could come with as well but still not sure exactly what gear I change to. I plan to put all 4 wheels in the air and make the changes to determine 2H, 4H.4L AWD and Neutral. Was hoping there was a "better" way. Thanks much for the reply. Ray

Thanks Rockfangd, Yes the 08 motor is out in 3-5 minutes, Much better than previous years. I was reading about placing the motor without bolting but running past the limits on the motor concerns me. If my first idea doesn't pan out I may not have a choice! Thank you for the advice. Ray
