Will a 2005 Blazer trans directly swap into a 1996 Tahoe without any wiring harness compatibility issues?

Thanks.

Nope, 6 cyl input has a 298mm length small spline and V8 has a 300mm 30 spline. Nothing but problems there. Internals are the same "kinda" I just rebuilt a burned up 05 suburban with a 05 Colorado core. Everything was the same but the input aka front drum. The pump and case is 05 up also.

Another catch is the 1996 is still one-piece case. Mid-1997 they went to two piece which also changed the adapter to the transfer case, so if you use a newer trans, you also need that piece.

But even if everything else was equal I would not bet on the 1996 and 2005 being the same electrically.

Ok, I see. I was expecting to hear that there were/are differences.

How about a 4L60E from a '99 Tahoe into the '96 Tahoe?

It will fit, the number one difference will be 98 and newer two piece case has a tail housing Held on with 6 bolts. The 97 and earlier is a 4 bolt type. You never stated if yours is a 4wd or 2wd.
