Yes, that's a patch from an old impala door that I took off. Lorne is using the door skin for patches, original Chevy steel. We may be getting our hands on some original inner/outer fender wells as well. As you guys know there are no repo convertible fender wells out there.

Yes, It's a patch from an old door, but is tack-welded from the outside.

I wish I could weld too...

I'd rather do all the frame stuff than tackle rusty sheet metal lol!

That body mount kit looks EXACTLY like the one I just got. If it is all the frame holes are too small!
One size is 1.437 and the other is 1.531 for the rubber bushings.
Body mount holes are roughly1.200 and 1.375. So they will all need 1/8 ground out if your situation is the same as mine.

I MIGHT try machining down the body mount rubbers to fit the holes. If that works I'll let you know. I could do your set also...

I had the same problem with the bushings for my '66. I used a hole saw that had the right inside diameter (1.2" and 1.375" ID). I made a pilot bushing out of aluminum that fit in the hole saw where the drill bit would usually go that was a snug fit to the bushing metal sleeve. Then just ran the hole saw down 1/8" and used a box knife to trim it off from the outside. The process worked great.

Removing the rust is easy enough, just messy as all hell. Like peeling back an onion. Once all the rusted areas are removed, replacing with fresh metal is pretty easy. AND, it's instant gratification.

The incredibly frustrating part is sheetmetal that doesn't line up correctly or has to be heavily modified to work.

At this stage/point in the restoration, we will just be replacing the body mount bushings for the trunk area.
Steve has a line on a replacement frame. If he happens to purchase it, then we will replace the remaining body mount bushings for the rest of the car after the frame has been cleaned up and painted.
At that point, we will likely take some rubber off the bushings as opposed to boring out the holes in the frame.

Here's some photos of how I cut down the bushings. it actually went really well. I've seen others widen the holes in their frame and I just couldn't bring myself to modify the frame to fit an aftermarket bushing when I could modify the bushing instead.

For your situation it probably is.....

With my frame totally accessible I decided to enlarge the holes. I got a hold of a couple of hole saws one is 1 1/2" and the other is 1 7/16".
I machined down a chunk of aluminum to "tap fit" into the hole saw with the protruding dia same as the frame hole sizes which were 1.200" and 1.375".

After making the plug and everything I had all the holes drilled in 1/2 hour.

If you want to use this let me know.
