Hi guys, my question is I can find 15 x 5” steel rims no problem brand new but they do not come with any clips. Does anyone know of rooms that come with clubs that are not original from the 50s? Or do you just take him to a place and have them drilled in the clips installed. Thanks a lot guys

What are the rooms and clubs you are talking about?

Welcome to the modern world with predictive texting/typing. I think we're seriously shooting ourselves in the proverbial foot with much of this unneccessary technology. Translation: "rims" with "clips". Personally, I turn that s**t off...even then, I proof read.

I'm not sure what "rooms" you have but the "clubs" can probably be pop-riveted onto the "hims". I've seen the "clubs" on eBay occasionally. I'm not sure if Chevs of the 40s or the like carries them. Just make sure everything is compatible before they get "drilled in".

UPDATE: Chevs of the 40s does carry the clips:

I don't know of any re-popped 15" rims like the originals that have clips installed. I didn't see any at Chevs of the 40s. You'd figure if anyone had them they would be found there.

I think I may be getting old! Between the public school grammar or lack of same, modern slang, combined with high technology word processing it makes me feel that way. When I was still working for a living a question of contact with a land owner came up. I had contacted them on a certain date by mail. When I opened up the letter WORD promptly change the date to the current day and my butt was in a sling. I had no proof of contact. When I asked the tech people to correct the program so as not to change dates it took an act of congress to get the job done. Fortunately for me while they were tinkering with the problem they looked at the tape and found that I was correct.

I don't know of any re-popped 15" rims that CAN have the clips installed. Even if you could get the clips separately, you wouldn't be able to install them. The centers of new wheels are stamped differently where the clips would have to fit.

look at sites like Stockton wheel or Wheel Vintiques and you will see what I am talking about.

Yeah, I am not a "wheel expert" by any strecth of the imagination. The clips at 40's are probably sold as replacements for broken clips. As an "out" on my previous post, I said "make sure everthing is compatable"...meaning make sure all things work well together. Original wheels may be the best bet to get the caps to hold on properly. There are of course this type of modern wheel that accept a particular type re-popped hub cap that look sort of original...but they do take a specific cap that is designed to fit this wheel. Original caps will not work on it and the caps that go on these wheels will not fit original wheels. I hope this helps beachb.

THESE ARE SOLD AT CHEVS of the 40s.

Right, new wheels intended to be used with dog dish caps have "humps" to hold the caps on. Smoothies don't have the humps, but the centers in those still won't accept OE type clips.

That's correct, the caps on the wheels pictured above are more of an interference type fit if memory serves. The humps for Chevrolet wheels began in 1954 with a new style of stainless hub cap that "popped" over the humps.

Just found this photo if 15" Rallys with nubs in the inside that hold the caps on with what could be called an interference fit. Some FORD trucks used this design and enthusiasts affectionately call them "innies" These are painted to resemble OEM wheels. The red one above I assume is the same but without the slots. The second photo is the '51 owned by Buzz Buzzard with the same Rallys on it.

I don't have a link at the moment. I'll check when I get out to the shop. I was surprised I couldn't find that wheel on Vintiques web site. They must have dropped it. I sent them an email about it. I do have the part number, but it's not coming up on anything.

Just received an email from Vintiques saying: "All of the wheels that had clips were discontinued since Wheel Vintiques move to the
City of Industry about 6 years ago."

That being said, they must have been selling out their stock because I got my info off their site less than 6 years ago.

Thanks for the info. I will first try to get some original rims with clips and OG caps but if that fails then I will just get new steel rims with the bumps or nubs and get re-pop caps and combine with a beauty ring to finish it off.
