I'm looking forward to it myself. My wife and I used to go every year using our tax returns. When it started costing more than the taxes we got back, the trips ended. Of course we made a vacation out of it taking all week and spending like a couple idiots.

Sadly, the delivery is sold and gone.
Working on a '93 short/wide for the street scene.

Ha Ha...that's funny Lee.

That's our exact plan too!

Going to start the week next week at Cape Canaveral for a couple of days to check out SpaceX and the NASA stuff first. Then on up to Daytona for some exhaust fumes and deafening sounds.

Did anybody watch the Clash race on TV yesterday?
It seems the new Camaro bodys are not quite as solid aerodynamically when bumper to bumper...
There were a number of crashes due what seemed like the cars lifting when close to other cars.

I watched Qualifying, but didn't get to see the Clash. But I will be paying attention to that on Sunday. I did notice that Ford took the 4 Top spots. Now that I re-checked it, I see that Chevy got only 2 Top 10's (5th and 10th).

I don't think the problems were limited to the Camaros.

The 125s and the 500 are going to be wreckfests.

Did your dad attend the last race on the beach in Daytona 1958 or the first race at the new track in 1959? A couple of buddies and I hitch hiked to Daytona from Atlanta in 1958, I had just turned 17, for the last race there but I don’t believe it was because of it being the last one on the beach, been too long to remember probably just the excitement of getting to go off that far. The next year we rode the Greyhound bus and went to the new track. One of the other guys and I were just talking about that a week or so ago and we were trying to figure out how we got around down there because I know that I couldn’t have had very much money but that part is long gone like a lot of other memories. I know that Richard Petty was a rookie driver and if I remember correctly his back bumper was painted yellow indicating that he was in fact a rookie driver. I haven’t kept up with NASCAR and these are the only two races that I ever went to. It would be interesting to know who all is left that attended those two races. I applauded you for helping out with at least one item of your Dad’s bucket list. As we get older we think more about “bucket list” than we did when were at the point of being 10’ tall and bullet proof . Lamar

My dad is a west coast ex racer and never been to Daytona. He ran in 63 and part of 64 at Riverside before his engine let go in his one and only annual Nascar appearance at Riverside. He tells me he qualifies
D and started but 2 laps in the engine let go and there was no sponsor money back in those days, so with a wife and 3 kids to feed, he let the dream go and went back to college and became a public school teacher. But hes always been a gearhead. Thats where i got it from.

We just toured Kennedy Space Center today and are heading north to Daytona tomorrow for a long weekend of RACING.

I waited to reply because I didn't want to bother you while enjoying this time with your Dad. I hope that it was everything that he hoped it would be and that it turned out the way he liked. I was a few miles east 60 years ago today watching them run on the beach. Thank you for sharing your Dads racing story. Lamar
