my 03 Silverado started to leak fluid from
the right front axle I hear it is a common
problem how much of a job to fix any ideas

Depends on your mechanical ability. Pretty straightforward, be sure to use a heavy grease to keep the thrust washer( number 9 in the diagram ) in place during assembly. Easily accomplished in a few hours.

some of them had a redesign in the retainer that holds the shaft into the housing.
Horrible design in my opinion.
the shaft wears on the clip and next thing you know there is nothing clipping the shaft in causing it to ride in the housing.
There is also a redesign in the seal. Much better design. attaches to the housing and the shaft. Should ensure no further leaks

I would guess go to my GM dealer and get the
correct seal any advice ?
