I have an 86 1ton duelly 2wheel drive. I've owned this truck for over 25 years, it's my baby but it rides so damn hard that sometimes almost need a kidney belt. Can I swap out front and rear springs with a 1/2 ton and add airbags to the rear when pulling 5 th wheel? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have zero experience with this kind of thing, but my first thought it that you might lose side to side stability. The leaf springs keep your axle in place from side to side, and airbags wouldn't make up for that. Maybe 3/4 ton springs? There may have been different spring rates available within each "ton" rating.

I have heard of guys going to lesser rated springs, but I think it's normally the lowered truck crowd.

I wonder if you'd really need to do the front.... on my truck it's usually the rear that I feel.

Interesting idea.

If I remember right, in the front, 1/2 & 3/4 ton have the same springs. In the rear, I'd look at the length being the same or dif.

Look at part numbers and see how they compare.
