Yup, happened a week ago driving home. The rebuilt 4L60E lost 1st gear and OD. It would start out in 2nd and shift into 3rd. It has ~20,000 miles on a rebuild. Knowing that shift solenoids were probably not changed, I ordered them. The A (1-2),B (3-4), and 3-2 downshift solenoids were replaced. Since it was cold, I wanted a shop to change them out. The shop owner was there. He was retiring that day. He gave me a lot of advice on 4L60Es. First, the solenoids should ohm out 20-21. Since the pan has to come off anyway, I decided to swap all three out. No use in trying to find the bad one. The shop owner told me of his rebuild experiences. He had rebuilt a few that would not shift. The primary problems were bad trans grounds, 3-2 solenoid failures, or ECM. It's was my first time swapping out shift solenoids. Other than having to take off the lower bell housing and moving the cross member back, the job was easy. Shifts are softer than before. Hopefully this fix will last. It's the first time a rebuild from my trans guy had a glitch in it. He's built at least 6 for me or friends. We also installed a new oil filter. Since we had the pan off and let it drip overnight, we used 6 quarts to refill it.

In Austin traffic? Heck no!! Would never get past 3rd gear.

Besides, my '96 and '95 were both acquired with bad transmissions.
I fix them and get lots of miles out them.
