Engines and transmissions and front suspensions are bolt-ins from '49 to '54. Steering parts will swap into a '49 S.D.
The rear doors of S.D.'s from '49 to '54 are interchangeable I think. Front doors are not a bolt in between cars and S.D.'s. WIndshields are swappable. Vent windows I think are, but door glass as I recall isn't. I'm not 100% sure about the door glass swapability tho. Dashes are the same between S.D.'s and pass cars.

49 front clip is the same as 49-50 Pass cars, The hoods are the same 49-52. 51-52 had a different splash pan front fenders and grill.
53-54 was totally different.

The top rear of the front doors are different and change the glass as they are rounded instead of square.

Thanks very much for the information! I'll be off to the junk yard to salvage all the parts I can.
Thanks a bunch,

Front doors from a 4 door will work if you modify the rounded corners as mentioned earlier, 49-52 only. Stainless trim varies from year to year. Belt line trim is the same 49-52, 53-54 has a fluted center on this trim.

Hi Glen if you want to keep it near stock then there were some quite useful improvements between 49-54.

53 powerglide and all 54 on had full pressure oiling, not dipper, and can be adapted to your situation. Also are 235 and a few 261's

52 and on had Bendix brakes which are much better and adapt quite easily. The 53-4 trans are better and the later steering boxes had bearings.

If you upgrade the engine to a later 235 it will appreciate if you swap out the manual 4.1:1 torque tube for the 3.55:1 from a powerglide car.

From memory the 53-4 front uprights sit the car lower

These cars also respond very well to electronic ignition and conversion to 12V.

Details of how to do all this are on the forum.

The best advice is to think out your plan for what you want and need from the vehicle and stick to it.

Cheers Kiwi
