I would like to add remote start to an 02 Suburban. I don't want after market. I would like to have exactly what GM would have installed in 2002. Is it possible? What all is needed?

I dont think that was a option til 2005.
It is done between the BCM and RKE modules, and the other modules are tied in for feature controls.
What is your keyfobs part number?

I think the 04 Malibu was the first GM vehicle to get that, so 05 for trucks sounds right.

I had a 2001 Impala with remote start so it was an option, maybe not in the trucks. I'm not sure what the key fob number is, it just has lock, unlock, and panic.

hmm.
I do see remotes listed that specify without remote start. but cannot locate remote with the option.
Did it have the start button at the top of the remote?
Like this

you could buy and program the remote and see if out of chance the option works. It can happen.
My research shows your 02 sub uses a 3 button remote but no remote start option. Will have to check some more
Looks like AP3 is the RPO code for remote start option but it only shows on cars, no trucks or subs til 05

Its more then buying the remotes
There is a kit with a keycode and new remotes
Gm has to program the pcm/bcm and last time I checked it was about $300 and you still got crappy range with the remotes
See if there is a t-harness for the truck and get a compustar with a good passlock bypass like a fortin
Alot better options for the remotes to

I think my 01 Impala fob looked like that, but it's been a while. My 08 Impala has a fob like that. The Suburban looks like that without the start or trunk button. I will check for that AP3 code. AP8 was another one I read.

If I do decide to go after market, is there one you would recommend? I don't want one with an alarm system and prefer one with the least wire cutting.

I have had excellent luck with Audiovox by prestige.
And as for the passlock bypass the FlashLogic works nicely.
Have run both for a extended period of time with no flaws.
very little to no glitches. You will want a bypass module that works with the remote start module.
Best way to go.
Another option is the xpresskit bypass module.
Stay away from Codealarm and any bypass module that uses a key.
You will only want a datalink type bypass
