The 1950 and 1951 1/2 ton brakes are COMPLETELY different.

Thanks Gene that will save everybody a lot of trouble. I take it the 50 truck had Huck brakes.

Hey Gene, Does it work if he swaps both fronts over backing plates and all. I did the Bendix conversion on my 48 using 53-4 front axle complete as I also wanted the later shocks, but I understand you can do it just at the backing plate level?
For six bolt use truck parts, for 5 bolt use car parts.

Kiwi, you shouldn't need to swap the axle, but you do need to swap the steering knuckle. This is because the Huck backing plate "wraps around" the kingpin, and the Bendix backing plate is relatively flat in this area. You also have to swap the hub and drum for the same reason. The web of the Huck drum is "coned" and the web of the Bendix drum is flat or nearly so. If you still have your old parts, this difference will be evident upon comparison.
On passenger cars with knee action and Huck brakes, the drum webs are flat. I have used Bendix drums on these cars (keeping the Huck brakes) by opening up the center hole and machining the rib or flange on the open side of the drum if it interfered with the backing plate. Obviously, this is not an authorized swap, and I wouldn't recommend trying it if there is a potential for litigation in your future. I did this back in the dark ages when I was still young, ignorant, and indestructible.

EM,
I've got 2 rears not turned oversize if you can use them. They are USA made "survivors", left from my '36 PU restoration, not repops from China.

Well, I got my hub today; ‘41. It doesn’t fit. It’s inside bearing would need a ~1-1/2” dia spindle, whereas my spindle is for a ~1-1/4” bearing. According to their book, ‘36-‘50 are the same. What, diff bearings?

It sounds like you might have gotten a 3/4 ton or larger hub. On those the inner bearing cone (inner race) is about 1.40" I.D. and will be marked 909526. You want to see a cone about 1.28" I.D. and marked 909552.
