Hey
I have a 582ci BBC with dual 3" pipes . Im not happy with the exhaust note it sounds like a boat. So, I would like to run a full x pipe to equalise the sound of each bank but would need major works to pull this off. Can i simply run a 2 1/2" cross pipe and get the same results???
TIA

Not really. An X cross handles exhaust a great deal differently than a cross over pipe/tube does.

When I did the first system for my V8 Vega, it was a single cross over, OK, but.....

I then added a second cross over just in front of the muffler's, a slight bit better, still no cigar.

After thinking about it, I redesigned the whole business with a single X pipe.

I now do all my exhaust systems with X pipes.

I make my own X's from merging two 90 degree mandrel bent curved pipes, works nicely. I always use the same diameter pipe for the X as the rest of the system I am building.
