My 41 rod. New to me. When I turn the key car powers up but other than that nothing. No click nothing. When I jump the selonoid the starter spins. Advice. I want to avoid flatbed and just get it running enough to get on my trailer.

Advice would be much appreciated

A little more information about your car would be extremely helpful. Keep in mind that a stock 41 would not have had key-turn starting. It just had a foot-operated starter with no solenoid, so your car has obviously been modified. You would be the best person to tell us what those modifications are, or at least better than anyone else here. At the barest minimum, please tell us what engine and transmission you have and whether the car still has a 6V system or if it has been converted to 12V. If you want to add more to that, it couldn't hurt any.

Now for the immediate problem. On the solenoid, are you jumping the battery cable terminal to the small terminal (the terminal marked "S" if you have two small terminals)? If no, you should be. If yes, when the starter "spins", does it crank the engine or does it just run free without doing anything else?

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.

Thanks Ray. It was a neutral safety issue.

Glad to hear you found the problem. "Neutral safety" tells me the car has been significantly modified. Please be sure to include details of the mods if you post again with this or other problems.
