This is my 3rd new vehicle with satellite radio and I have never seen such poor reception. My 2012 Ram and 2015 Jeep both rarely lost reception unless it was storming really bad or I was under something. My 2017 'Burb loses reception all the time and in broad daylight with no obstructions. Not just a little blip, mind you, but complete signal loss of 10-60 seconds. Anyone else see this kind of signal loss on their 'Burb?

I couldn't tell your location, but from what you explained about your previous systems working, it sure sounds like a defective radio or antenna system.

I agree.
I have 2 satellite systems and both are fine.
You either have a bad antenna, bad antenna wire, or loose connection.
Check your antenna connection to be sure it is seated well.
With my experience with the satellite radios is that the antenna cable must be perfect. If the shielding is damaged it will cut out.
Sometimes the copper center will break and the only way to know is to replace the cable.
It is a solid wire shielded by plastic inside the cable

Poor receiver ground is another possibility. Let the dealer check it out first. It may be a problem GM is already aware of.

Just thought I'd update this post with some info. Truck was into the dealer this morning for its 1st oil change. I mentioned to the service advisor that I was having issues with satellite radio reception and if maybe the tech could check it out. The SA came back a half hour later to tell me that they had found a service bulletin on the vehicle for antenna leaks and that they were going to replace the antenna for free. He said they found some water in there and that it could be shorting the antenna out and causing my reception issues. If you are having similar issues I suggest a visit to your dealer and ask them about this service bulletin. I'll know if it fixed the problem later this week when I hit the interstate.

there you go.
The antennas are very finicky if they are compromised.
Should be fine once repaired

When they replaced mine last summer they said it only affected models with body colored roof antenna.

#15155: Customer Satisfaction Program – Loss of GPS, OnStar and XM Antenna Functions – (Aug 7, 2015)

Subject: 15155 – Loss of GPS, OnStar and XM Antenna Functions
Models: 2015 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV
2015 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Suburban, Tahoe
2015 GMC Sierra Crew Cab, Yukon, Yukon XL
*****THIS PROGRAM IS IN EFFECT UNTIL AUGUST 24, 2017.*****

Condition

Certain 2015 model year Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra Crew Cab, GMC Yukon, and GMC Yukon XL vehicles may have a condition that can allow water to leak into the vehicle’s roof-mounted antenna. This condition could prevent the vehicle’s OnStar system from accurately determining the vehicle’s location; disable the vehicle’s compass, navigation, and XM radio systems; illuminate the vehicle’s red OnStar LED indicator; and allow water into the interior passenger compartment.

Dealers are to replace the OnStar antenna.

Note: Use the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which High Frequency Antenna to order.

UPDATE: the antenna fix did not solve my reception issues as I lose signal in the same places as before. Has to be an issue with the vehicle itself as my 2 previous vehicles with Sirius had no issues with signal loss and I am still living near and driving the same streets. It is so bad that I will not be renewing my Sirius when it expires.

Mountain? Not here in S. Florida.

The Sirius radios seem to have better reception than the Xm radios

XM in my 2017 Sierra Denali has not had one reception issue up here in Upper Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior.

It's most likely your environment, something interfering with reception. The radio signals come from space and lots of things can interfere. I was a GPS Survey Tech for state DOT (retired) and our GPS receivers could be affected by high voltage power lines, other radio communication in the area so we had to be aware of our surroundings when setting control points.

Has to be the radio, then, because anytime I lose reception and look around I can find a cell/comm tower nearby. Same neighborhood I've lived in since 2012 and previous vehicles and wife's BMW had/have no issues. Pretty disappointing for a $65k vehicle.

IMO XM radio is not worth the cost and the subscriber issues. I never subscribe anymore after having major issues with their credit card billing and having a difficult time to stop them for automatically charging my CC for renewal. I can live without listening to music (although some cannot), besides lots of free stations out there.

Once the free trial is up I probably won't renew. Between the reception issues and having so many other options (USB with mp3s, streaming Pandora or Slacker, CD, HD radio...) I see no reason to continue with satellite radio.
