The paint on my 98 1500 has not faded or peeled.

Does this year have the primary color and then clear coat?

it is red and I have heard that color fads badly??

Thanks

Yes, it does. Solid plus clearcoat.

Yes it does. You can look in the glove box. It will say BC/CC (base coat/clear coat).

The base color is a non metallic red

There is no degradation of the clear coat

I was wondering why, was the 1998 clear coat different than what

they putting on now??

Fading is going to depend on where you live, park etc, parked outside in Arizona is alot worse then in a garage in Seattle
And im sure gm used better paint 20 years ago vs today

I've read that the new acrylics (new as in late 80's) don't fade. I've got a blue '94 GMC and I can get the same color using the code at an auto parts store in a spray can and it matches perfectly. It doesn't last long (probably because I'm not baking it) but the color is the same. There isn't any "blending" or "matching" involved. The truck has been mostly parked outside and uncovered in hot, humid weather.

My biggest problem is rock chips.

You might want to buy a can from the auto parts store and spray a scrap piece of metal to be sure. Be sure to use the correct primer under it. I think the color code is on the sticker in the glove box. Or maybe I got it from a VIN listing.

There is no fading!!!

My other Chevys a 2000 Silerado and a 2002 Tahoe the clear coat

All were in New Mexico heat/sun

Question is the the 1998 clear coat different than what they are

putting on now????

I assume my truck was parked outside for a long time, but it came from Georgia to Texas. It has been parked outside since I have owned it, but even when I bought it, the Clear was toast on it. It has peeled off so much it is almost nonexistent.

I do not believe the formula is different, but for today's trucks, it may have been improved in some ways.

By the way, mine is a 1998 K1500 with the Dark Maroon Red.
