Hello,
Does anyone have a picture of a 1950 Styline dashboard? Looking for the original colors to paint. Someone told me all skyline dashboards were the same two tone color.

Hum...all 1950 Deluxe dashes were painted the same two tone colors [excuding the convertible and Belair]. And, all 1950 Special models were painted the same single color.

When I worked in auto body I had mixed each of the Deluxe dash colors in Sikkens base/clear. The upper color began as a Honda color and the lower color started as a VW color....each tweaked to match. I can post those formulas later.

In the photo below, I had repainted the garnish molding while the upper dash color is original. You can see a slight section of the lower dash color in the photo as well.

RAM,
Do you happen to know the names of those colors ?
Hopefully I can have my paint find those paints.

This is about the best I can do as far as codes go. The upper dash color is Titan Gray Poly, and the lower dash color is Silver Gray. The chart below provides a DITZLER code that supposedly will bring you close to the proper color. I've never used this chart or explored these codes to see exactly how close they come. They will probably still need tweaking to be "spot on" evidenced by the notes at the far right. A PPG dealer should be able to help you with the codes provided here. I have the Dupont codes for these two colors as well, but now-a-days a Dupont code is almost useless. The blue, green, and red are for the upper dash color of the convertible.

For S&Gs, I decided to research and scan the two color chips for the two grays referenced in the above chart. Of course a computer scanner and monitor will not do justice to these chips. What would be needed to make an appropriate match are numerous spray outs observed in sunlight or other appropriate light source.

And these are scans my Sikkens spray-outs: Interestingly, and I never noticed it until now...the notes call for the upper dash color to be darker...which mine is...and for the lower color to be redder...which mine also is.

Hey Larry
Here's a pic of my '50 Styleline DeLuxe dash. Original paint as far as I can tell.
Good luck.

This is a copy from VCCAChat from a few years ago from stefakicoupe
He was kind enough to send the exact formula to whoever asked for it and I have it somewhere. I think I posted here at one time. I'll look around for it.
"I am pretty sure i have the correct paint formulas for a 50 dash, took my rear armrest and glove box door to PPG they shot a pic of both they came up with codes for the colors. we dabbed a spot on both the parts let it dry and they were both pretty close to dead on.am going to paint the top part of dash tuesday. will let all know how it comes out it is not a honda nor volkswagen color as previous post has listed.i have the formulas for both.the colors are = OEM CODE 930404 MERCEDES STEINGRAU FOR THE GRAY (added black after intial mix)AND OEM CODE 919826 KIA TEAL GREEN,NEW GREEN FOR THE DASH NO MODEL YEARS ON EITHER PAINTS =but as from experience not all paint suppliers sometime mix paint the same way.if anybody is interested in a copy of the way it was exactly mixed for me"

Your radio looks different from the other stock ones I've seen. Round push buttons versus the square.

Don't mean to answer for Mike, but If I'm not mistaken that is a Motorola, as opposed to the more common factory authorized Delco.

Ram's right it is a Motorola I think they were sold a Western Auto. When I got my car it had no radio I found that one on e-bay. Its only the radio head not hooked up.

Motorola also made a manual tune version without the round pushbuttons. Also scanned instructions for the Motorola Radio.

Pretty cool. Thanks MikeJW and Ram_51.
Motorola was another one of Bill Lear's ideas, along with Lear Jets and 8 track tapes, etc.
