My father just gave me his 82 silver over charcoal Corvette as an early inheritance. The car has not been garage kept or covered so the paint is a total loss. The body looks straight with no obvious damage or cracks. Needs carb and alternator. Interior needs work. I am new to the forums and would appreciate any advice on where to start in restoring this beauty. I know my first step is to have a rollback bring it to my home to go into the Garage for initial cleanup. What is my second step Engine/trans, body/paint, interior? I am new to this and don't want to make any stupid mistakes that will hurt or delay this project. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, welcome to Chevytalk. Should probably have posted on the Corvette forum, maybe this will get moved. Anyways, congrats on the vette. If the car has sat out and barely used a good place to start is changing the fluids in particular the gas tank and brakes. Get it running and stopping before worrying too much about appearance. Of course a shave and a haircut wouldn't hurt.

I have asked the moderator to move this thread to the C3 forum. You will likely receive more replies there.

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.

YO !!!

YOUR NEW 82 DOESN'T HAVE CARBS SO TO SPEAK
ITS A "CROSSFIRE" FUEL INJ SYSTEM.
UNFORTUNATLY I DIDN'T OWN 1 & I ONLY COMMENT ON VETTES I ACTUALLY WORKED ON.I DID COME CLOSE TO OWNING A 82 COLLECTOR EDITION,ACTUALLY TWICE.
AS STINGRAY MENTIONED,DRAIN GAS TANK,FRESH FLUIDS ETC ETC.MORE THAN LIKELY,BRAKES/CALIPERS WILL BE NEXT.SO MECHANICAL 1ST THEN APPEARANCE LAST IS WHAT I USUALLY DO.

Good advice from Tat! Brake calipers will nearly always fail if the car has been inactive for any period of time. They are easy to rebuild or replace them with stainless units from any of our advertisers. Post some pics when you can.
Welcome to Chevy Talk and good luck with your new project!
