On eBay, Impala Bob's listed a 63 Full Size Chevy License Plate Light Assembly for $30.88 including free shipping. I paid Impala Bob's the $30.88 through my Pay Pal account. After not receiving any shipping information, I called Impala Bob's to find out when the light assembly would be shipped. Spoke to an individual who identified himself as Mike who stated Impala Bob's requires an additional $50 shipping surcharge on all items shipped to a residential address despite their notation on the eBay listing the shipping was free.
I have filed for a dispute resolution with eBay and Pay Pal to have my $30.88 refunded. I have also contacted Impala Bob's through eBay to cancel my transaction.
Beware of this $50 shipping surcharge unless your item is shipped to a business address. I'm not aware of any other parts vendor charging this over the top shipping charge.

Did you verify this "Mike" fellow was indeed from Impala Bob's? The Impala Bob's website makes no mention of such a policy anywhere on its "Shipping and Returns" or "Terms and Conditions" pages.

Seems like a small enough package, that they will ship it by UPS, FedEx, or USPS. I just advise shippers to send it to me in care of a business name. The drivers don't care, and deliver the packages to my home, or my Post Office Box. The Post Office will accept UPS & FedEx shipments if you sign a document with them allowing them to sign for your items. This started about a year ago, and has worked out well for me.

Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

threeimpalas, while I was on the eBay listing for the license plate light I clicked on "Sellers Store" thats where the surcharge information is posted. Thats when I called them and Mike confirmed the $50 surcharge on shipping to a residential address. His reasoning was that their shippers charge more for residential deliveries as it takes longer then delivering to a business.
How could this Mike not be an Impala Bob's employee when he answered their phone?
Just received an email this morning stating the light assembly has been shipped.

models916, obviously your not familiar with making purchases off of eBay and Pay Pal transactions. You can't do what you suggested because eBay and Pay Pal accounts have my correct name and address on them and is auto filled when a purchase and payment is made.
The correct solution for outrageous shipping charges is to buy from other vendors.

Dear UPS Customer,

UPS has been hard at work to ensure a smooth 2017 holiday season and to provide the reliable service that you trust us to deliver year-round. With our package network enhancements and the expansion of our new Saturday Ground Service Territories, we are ready to help you succeed. To help you plan ahead and have the important shipping dates at your fingertips, download our holiday schedule PDF.

During the November and December holiday season, UPS must flex its delivery network to process nearly double its normal volume. To offset some of the additional investments required to provide service when volume surges, UPS will implement peak pricing for residential, Large and Over Maximum Limits packages.

The table below highlights the peak charges and the weeks to which they apply within the U.S. 48 contiguous states and intrastate Alaska and Hawaii:*
Per Package Peak Charge
(U.S. 48 Contiguous States and
Intrastate Alaska and Hawaii) Nov. 19 -
Nov. 25 Nov. 26 -
Dec. 2 Dec. 3 -
Dec. 9 Dec. 10 -
Dec. 16 Dec. 17 -
Dec. 23
UPS Next Day Air® Early, UPS Next Day Air®, UPS Next Day Air Saver® - Residential n/a** n/a** n /a** n/a** $0.81
UPS 2nd Day Air®, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M.®, UPS 3 Day Select® - Residential n/a** n/a** n /a** n/a** $0.97
UPS® Ground – Residential $0.27 $0.27 n/a** n/a** $0.27
Large Package $24.00 $24.00 $24.00 $24.00 $24.00
Over Maximum Limits Package $249.00 $249.00 $249.00 $249.00 $249.00
* For packages to and from Alaska and Hawaii, specific rates are posted on ups.com/rates.
** Peak charge does not apply to this service level during the applicable timeframe referenced in the chart.

For imports to the U.S., UPS will implement a peak charge on specific international air lanes during certain periods of the year. This will allow us to match capacity with demand in an increasingly dynamic market environment.

To view a detailed list of all peak charges and to learn more about when they apply, visit ups.com/rates today. The detailed list of all peak charges will also be available in an updated 2017 UPS Rate and Service Guide on September 1, 2017.

To help you get an early start on Cyber week shipping, we are offering pickup and delivery service in all areas on Friday, November 24. Similar to last year, transit times will be modified on specified days for certain services. From November 20 through December 30, a limited number of UPS Ground and UPS® Standard packages with transit times of three or more days, and with specific origins and destinations, will require an additional day in transit. Beginning June 30, 2017, use the Holiday Ground Impact Tool on ups.com/holidays to identify changes by ZIP code pairs.

All UPS 2nd Day Air and UPS 3 Day Select packages shipped on December 18 and December 19 will require an additional day in transit. UPS 3 Day Select packages shipped on December 19 or later will be scheduled for delivery after Christmas.

The most up-to-date transit time details will be available at ups.com/ctc at the time of shipping. For more detailed information regarding any changes to the UPS Service Guarantee or commitment times during the holidays, please refer to our holiday schedule PDF.

We value you as a customer and are committed to providing you exceptional service and peace of mind this holiday season and beyond. Working together we will ensure success during this high demand period.

Andy, thanks for your post confirming Impala Bobs $50 surcharge on shipping to a residential address. Obviously other posters on CT didn't believe it. Now they can read it for themselves.

It's hard to believe because it's simply an outrageous surcharge. But there it is...

Hi All,

Apparently there was some misunderstanding or misscommunication about our shipping policy regarding residential deliveries.

There is a residential delivery surcharge of $50, but this applies ONLY to truck freight shipments of large items (such as quarter panels, hoods, large fenders, full floor pans, palletized shipments, etc.). This is a fee that virtually all truck freight companies charge, that we have no control over, and is a cost that we are not able to absorb. So many of the items we offer are sold just barely above cost.

If you prefer to save $50 and not be charged this fee on truck freight items, please provide us with a genuine, verifiable commercial business address. Please do not use a company name with a residential address, as this will be checked, cause delays, and will not work.

The residential delivery surcharge of $50 DOES NOT apply to small packages and parcels sent by regular Ground service or USPS. That would be ridiculous and unreasonable and has never been our policy. We apologize if there has been any confusion about this.

Our programmers are currently looking at our eBay store listings to see if there have been any recent posting errors made, such as using the wrong shipping information template for an item, etc. Any errors found will be promptly corrected. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention so that we can fix it.

Never had a problem with the FREE shipping on eBay from Bob's. I just bought rear bushings from them & NO extra shipping charges. Like Bob's has said, that is for FREIGHT CHARGES.....just saying

FWIW, you can enter additional shipping addresses to both eBay and PayPal, and then select the correct one to use when completing the transaction.

If a vendor gives a break for shipping to a business address, add your employer's address (or some other friendly business address) and use it.
