Just came from the dealer, I have 7600 miles on my 2015 Chevy silverado 2500hd diesel, where the egr valve is rusting, they gathered the shop foreman, Service manager, and a Tech. together and came up with it is normal. If you look in the engine compartment it is really nice and clean, then you see this big ugly rusted EGR Valve/ Housing. Anyone else see this before?

Welcome to Chevytalk, Mike,

It's not pretty and I'm sure it's annoying to see that on your low mileage truck...but it's simply a cast iron part that wasn't painted or plated in any way at the factory, and that's what it's gonna look like after a little while.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the welcome and the reply!
I guess what concerned me was the Service manager and shop foreman had never seen something like this before, they had to go get a Tech. to tell them it was normal.

It seems to me it should not be that rusty that fast, unless you live in NY that is.
There should be some kind of coating on the steel.
How rusted is it?

It is only surface rust, the truck has not been in the snow yet here in Virginia so it wasn't subjected to salt.
