Local dealer has a 07 and either two 11's or 2 10's then a single 11 or 10. These are all Silverados with the 4.8 engine, 2wd. Either a crew short or a extended standard. Trucks have anywhere from 120k~ to 150k~ miles. $10000 to $14000

I was originally worried about the "chevy shake" but I would think a simple test drive would be a clear way to find out if it has it. I'm now worried about it burning oil. Recently watched a video about a persons 5 things they didn't like about the truck. The engine being Gasoline Direct Injection and AFM. The person mentioned a Catch Can for the PCV valve, but didn't go into much detail. Thing is I don't really know if this applies to the 4.8 as it was a 5.3 in the video and the years are different.

When I'm looking at a used truck, how can I tell if it's burning oil? Also worried about the transmission fluid ever being changed. What if I buy it and it burns oil, what can I do? Is there anything else to look out for, in these trucks, with these engines and miles?

Thanks,
Awaqa909

You are correct in thinking several of those complaints to not apply to the year range you're looking at. The GDI engines are in the current, newest body style (K2XX series) - and I think those are the only trucks known for the "shake" as well, which so far seems to not have a definitive cause.

Not sure how you could tell if a truck is using excessive amounts of oil until you've put a few thousand miles on it.

Those trucks sound expensive for having the small V8 and that many miles. Dealers will be priced higher than individuals, generally, but those prices still sound like a lot. Usually the 4.8 trucks are the less-optioned ones as well so that really puts the price out of line, IMO.

What kind of price are you thinking, for these trucks? One is a WT other 2 are a LS. I think KBB said a 2010 LS was around $10000 with such miles, in excellent condition, to a private seller. I'm not sure how much I could talk off a dealer. KBB only had the option for the 5.3 v8 though. I matched it as close to the trucks I'm looking at.

Didn't try real hard searching because there are a bazillion trucks for sale around here, but just saw:

2009 crew short LS 5.3 110K miles $12500
2008 crew short LS 5.3 115K miles $12500
2005 ext short V8 107K $9795 (didn't say which engine, truck is hard loaded though)
2009 ext short 5.3 Texas Edition 127K miles $11000

A few examples. If you're willing to accept a rebuilt title the prices drop a bit more. You have to be careful though, obviously not all rebuilt trucks are going to be a good deal. Some are piles of junk just barely pieced back together, and the guys building them can be really good at hiding the corners they cut. I've been around salvage/rebuilt vehicles most of my life and can spot many flaws a mile away, so I'm comfortable with it. Two of the three vehicles in my driveway have rebuilt titles.

It should be noted if you go with the older generation trucks you avoid AFM and VVT...which for some people have been problematic. The GMT800 series (1999-2006) are great trucks.

I would look for a 2009-2013 model.
The new 6-spd is nice. The radio would have an auxiliary port on the face.
Rear back-up cameras became an option.
And remember leather covers were an option on the GMC SLE/Chevy LT models too. The 2007.5-2009 Cloth seats SUCK!!

If you "test drove" the truck home, you might pull the 4 AFM cylinder spark plugs. Look for excessive oil deposits...
