2003 Chevrolet S10 - 3rd brake light - lens melted

Uhm, I was cleaning out the bed… I live under trees, so it happens often… and I noticed the lens is melted on my 3rd brake light on the 2003 Chevrolet S10 extended cab.

Something else to fix, I guess.

HMNNnmmmnnn.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I've never replaced the bulbs on it, so I guess they are the stock ones.

Just curious.

It probably has the wrong fitted bulb. Four can fit in it.
211-2 is 12 Volts at 12.4 Watts
577, 921 & 921LL are about 12v @ 17.9W These will melt the lens over time. Use a 211-2 bulb.

Thanks for the reply gchemist.

I have ordered a replacement lens.

I will see what bulbs are in there when I go to monkey around with it.

This truck has been in the family for many years now and I don't recall those bulbs ever being replaced before.

Oh well, it will be interesting to find out.

Check to make sure that your stop lights are not on all the time.

Is there someone driving the truck that that brakes with their left foot (riding the brakes)?

You might want to have the dealer check to see if there's a TSB regarding the melting lens.

I don't ride with my foot on the brake.

...and the way my dead mother drove, I doubt she did either. vroooom.

but who knows about my sister and my dad... however, I'll blame it on my sister since she's still alive.
