i have a 383 put together with speedpro dish pistons 2 valve reliefs i know not the best choice but i have a couple new sets laying around that where gave to me,a performer rpm intake, scat crank, scat 5.7 rods,scorpion 1.5 roller rockers, profiler 195 heads with 64cc combustion chambers, 2.02 intake valves 1.60 exhaust valves,pistons are .010 in the hole, 4.100 bore size head gaskets that compresses to .028 for a quench of .038 going to install in a 4000? lb truck with a tci street fighter turbo 350 with a 3000 stall converter with possibly a 3.73 gear. truck has 255/60/r15 tires on it . looking for cam recommendations. i was thinking about a howards hyd roller with .530 intake .545 exhaust lift, 233@ .050 intake duration 241 @.50 exhaust duration with 110 lsa or 112 lsa what do yall think also what size carb thanks

Sounds like a good combo, the roller is the way to go with a pretty aggressive cam. At least a strong 750 carb, maybe even 850, but that may a little much for low speed street driving.

thanks shepard one thing i forgot to mention. i am not sure on which headers 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 cant seem to find the 1 3/4 to fit my truck

A Holley 3310 780 carb would be a good choice for a carburetor. IMO, I think an 850 may be a little big. Have you checked the DCR with this particular cam? If so, what are the results?

The larger tube headers would give you a little more top end power all things equal over the more common 1 5/8.

the dynamic cr i come up with is 7.97:1 that seems low to me maybe i am not calculating it right

Checked it by your figures, 10.8:1 static, don't know how you got 7.97? Hmm ok I see dynamic not static. Wallace racing has a good calculator, you would need the exhaust valve closing specs. Actually 8:1 dynamic isn't bad.

D-dish K-Bs would have been better, but those are perfectly good pistons. I have used them on a 383 with 70cc chambers.

Now has 355 with Vortec heads, RamJet roller cam, LS6 beehive springs, TH350
Retired, but working part-time on 50s-70s cars & trucks.
