I am in the process of looking for a 67-69 427 block for my 69 Caprice. I have found an original short block casting 3916321 with original steel crank/rods and pop up pistons from 67. The stamp pad indicates this was a "CE" motor. Not sure if it was an L71/88/89. Whats it worth?

It sure sounds like a good find.

The "CE" code designates a replacement, or over the counter motor does it not?

Steel crank is good. What is the bore?

Would it need to have the short-block rebuilt, or does it look like you can run it as it is?

Do you know anything about the cam? Hydraulic, or solid?

The 427/435's were all 4 bolt main. Is this one a 4 bolt?

A lot depends on what it is, but I would think it's worth every bit of 3K.

According to the Corvette Black Book the 3916321 can be a '67 or a '68 390-400-430- or 435 HP unit...However CE is not listed, may be a replacement block as previously stated.

Correct...warranty replacement from what I have come to understand.

Steel crank is good. What is the bore?

Standard bore...it has not been rebuilt.

Unsure...but if nothing else just a freshening up.

I don't yet.

Yes it is a 4 bolt and includes numbers matching date code correct 3919840 bare heads.

Wow...It sure looks like you're onto something there!

In your original post, I read just the shortblock, but it includes heads as well?

The number on the heads are for the higher horsepower rating.

Good find!

Sorry, I really don't have a clue as to what the replacement blocks are worth.

Heads included...but looks to be bare. Seems these are the larger rectangular port closed chamber model. Thinking this motor was probably an 11.1 CR.
