What trans do you have? What switch did you buy? If you have the 1998728 switch, that is a real early 63 deal that carried over from 61 and 62, and the wires are black, and are only about 6 inches long. The later 63's used the 1997929 switch which had a long lead that mated up to the firewall. If you do have the early 62 style switch, use the CF16951 61-62 back up light jumper to mate between your switch and the dash harness. The cost is about 22-25 bucks. Sorry, don't have a current catalog here at the house. LOL

Thanks for the info
I do have the 01997929 switch with lead wire.but i dont think its long enough to reach any connector. Not sure in the routing of the wire, I was told that wiring came from the dash thru the fire wall and down under to the transmission. I have no wire there and there was no backup lite switch when i purchase the car. Just wondering if i could run the wiring under the console to the connector under the dash. I see this wire on line , would this be correct to purchase? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Impala-SS-Be lair-Back... Thanks again for your help

Yep! That's the one needed when using the later B/U switch (the 929 one). That round grommet snaps into a hole in the firewall (if you car was not an original 4 speed car, you'll have to cut the hole), the other end plugs into the dash harness, and the switch wiring plugs into the grommet in the firewall. Look at M20 in your assembly manual.

I purchase the wiring harness on ebay. I hope now I have everything to hook it up. You talk about a plug in the fire wall? I am thinking that this wire passes thru the hole fire wall. One end to the dash harness and the other end to the switch lead. Would I be correct in my thinking?

What is my problem???
I just received my backup lite extension wire no. cf33626 and the plug on the end does not match the end on the transmission switch wire no. 01997929. What am I missing or do I have a wrong wire.
Any help is really appreciated.

Should be right. Can you please post a pic of your switch and end?
