I have a 1955 Chevy with a 700r4 trans. and 350 motor. I put on a single wire alt. Now I noticed that I'm pulling 14.4 volts upon exceleration. Is this to much? I also noticed that at night my rear running lights go out and brake lights go out. I'm wondering if my light switch is acting like a voltage req. and when the voltage gets to high it opens the circuit. 55 chevy light switches have that protection in it.

14.4 volts is the correct voltage. You have something else wrong in your light circuit I believe.

Are you running headlights which draw more current than stock?

Nick's post was apparently deleated from the stock forum after I responded to his new information.

Nick, the gray and white wires are on the wrong terminals of the headlight switch. The gray wire is being shorted out when the switch is bolted to the dash. Link to light switch.
