A while back the subject of hood releases came up. Here is my solution that has worked for the last 10-12 years. Originally I thought the angle bracket would be long enough but it wasn't so I added the threaded rod and a piece of hose as a cushion. This is accessible through the top most opening in the grill on my '46. '47-8 should work just as well. As you can see I had to bend the angle bracket a little to get it into the right position.
If someone has a stocker that they want judged or you want to keep the stock look you can leave the hood release cable attached to the lock plate, just don't connect the cable to the lock mechanism. A judge would have to stand on their head to see the little lever through the grill.
