My elco is Plain Jane. What's involved in adding power steering besides a pump and brakes besides the actuator and master cyl.?
Any good sources for the required components?BTW,it already has front discs.

Could we please have a hint as to what year elco and what engine you have? Also, if it is 72 or earlier, are the discs factory or aftermarket?

IMO, your easiest PS swap will be the factory setup. Rebuilt steering gears are available at Rockauto and likely other parts stores (but at higher prices). You may still need a donor car for the intermediate shaft and pitman arm, as I don't believe those parts are reproed. Any 68-72 A-body should work, and maybe 64-67, but I am not absolutely certain about those earlier ones.

For the pump, it will be easiest to take the complete belt drive setup, including all of the brackets and pulleys, off of a factory PS engine close to the same year as yours. Rebuilt pumps are available, but I don't think the factory mounting brackets and pulleys are reproed. That's why you will want a donor engine to keep the swap as easy as possible.

If you get the steering gear to match the car and the pump to match the engine, you might have a compatibility issue with the hoses, depending on the year difference between the pump and the gear. If that happens, see if you can get adapter fittings for one end or the other. In the worst case, a hydraulic hose shop can make up hoses with the ends you need.

The brakes are a little less clear cut. If you can identify where the MC came from, you could try for a booster from the same vendor. They should know whether or not your present MC can be used for PB. If you can't identify the MC source, then order a matched MC and booster from the vendor of your preference.

Funny what you identify with. What an egimokation and related vocabulary you have there to..... using all those big words. Don't overstrain your brain. You need to learn some etiquette too. You are right I did waste my keystroke on you, originally.

Happy to help. Also, you might be able to get additional info, as well as other opinions, if you ask on the Chevelle forum.

Whichever setup you decide to go with, please post again and let us know how it works out for you. Sharing your experience, both good and bad, can be helpful to other CT members.

what are your future plans, desires and dreams? dont go off half planned and end up buying stuff twice. i like quick ratio steering boxes. they are available new or i think the 2nd gen z28 box will do.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.
