I recently bought and am installing a factory gauges kit for my 65 impala ss 2 dr ht auto and everything seems to be plugging back in correctly with the exception of the emergency brake switch, there is NO wire coming out of the harness that is to go to the emergency brake??? can you please help me with this? am i doing something wrong? or is there something more i need to do?

The gauges were standard in an SS. Why are you having to add them? If it is an SS car, the gauges and the wiring were standard with all the correct hook-ups. In addition, a real SS dash harness would have a tan brake warning wire in it. If the harness was out of a Bel Air or Biscayne (which would an idiot light harness), it would not have that wire is PB warning was optional on those cars.

"I recently bought and am installing a factory gauges kit for my 65 impala ss 2 ..."
Donny,
I read this question a bit differently than how you interpreted it. I assumed he missed a word and meant
"I recently bought and am installing a factory gauges WIRING kit ..."
So I think he has a new dash wiring harness for his SS and it does not have a wire for the brake light.
Hopefully he will clarify for you.
scwrly1,
If this is the case I would suggest that you provide Donny with the wiring harness part number that you ordered and are trying to install so he can help you out.

Sure, coming right out of the bottom of the fusebox is a tan wire with a black stripe that is about 13 inches long and has a male bullet terminal on it. That wire plugs into the back of the black plunger button that is part of the PB warning switch.
The wire in the cluster harness that is the same color and goes into a lamp socket with a pink wire is the lamp for the PB warning function.

Donni,
I was working on my car today and looked and found No loose tan wire. there is a tan wire that is in the dimmer switch but no loose wire at all on that side of the harness. i have hooked everything up except the ignition as (from the instructions) i have to cut the pink wire out from the bulkhead and the ignition terminal and install a new pink wire i got from you in my engine wire harness. im wondering now if i have the right harness? everything plugs in but just missing that Tan wire.

It should be there. Unless it got taped down inside the harness?
I hope you don't have this installed if you are going to be doing the HEI update. Almost impossible to do with the harness installed.

Ha ha.. yeah It is installed from what I understand I need to disconnect the pink wire from the back of the bulk head and install the new pink wire supplied with the engine harness and connect to the same pink location on the ignition switch, correct? meaning i need to pull the fuse block back out. not too big of a deal, the dash is out of the car so i can at least still have room to see. i will look for the tan wire when i pull it out. are you saying it may be taped inside the bulkhead??

Ok, good luck (seriously). That's gonna be tough to do installed in the car. No, the wire and bullet terminal could be taped inside the harness, very rare for that to happen and be missed in QA, but it's possible I suppose. Let me know what you find please.
