Tony,
You're right. I think those year models are a lot more popular on the east coast.

Do we know if this car still exsits, like in the GM Heritage Center collection?

Very good question! I have no clue but i would think GM would keep that car.

I'll be there tomorrow for a luncheon and can ask the question.

My guy didn't know.

I did see a red '02 convertible Pace Car (last built) but didn't see a '92.

We have more vehicles than the Heritage Center can display, so vehicles are pulled from storage at remote locations and rotated through. It might show up on one of my future visits.

Keith,

How'd you get the invite? Is it still invitation only?

Yes - the luncheon was a celebratory event because the GM Accessories group had their best month ever (or some such nonsense). I had to endure two hours of pandering speeches and back slapping before lunch was served. I almost couldn't do it.

The Heritage Center also has quarterly (or so) open houses by invitation only. You have to get your name on a list and are allowed three guests. I always put my name in the hat as soon as bidding is open because I know someone will contact me and want to go.

The next open house is scheduled for next Wednesday October 7th. It's the first one they've held in quite a while. I still have one spot I'm working to fill.

TODAY IN GM HISTORY

9/29/1986
My pickup truck was built!

29 years ago today.

I got to the plant about 4:30 pm on what was a Monday 2nd shift; the cab/box was just coming out of paint and into trim (perfect timing).

I followed the body through trim until it went upstairs to the accumulator, then hopped downstairs to follow the motor/chassis build. After body drop it was a straight shot out the back.

I drove the truck from the end of the line to the shipping building myself and left the plant at 1:30 am on Tuesday morning.

By 5 pm that same day it was sitting in the parking lot at Hank Graff Chevrolet in Davison (13 miles total).
