I'm pulling a 4.7 motor this week. I don't have an engine stand anymore. I never received back from a user. He passed away before I could get it back. RIP.

Does anyone have a pic or recommendation for building a short block stand using wood? I only need to transport it. It will mounted on an engine stand for head installation and clean up at a different location. Engine and trans are coming out as a unit. Ram truck engines/trans are easy to pull. Only one support across the engine bay is bolted on.

this may sound rather "REDKNECK" but I see it done frequently, guys take two old used tires like from a corvette and stack them then tie rope thru the center so the center hole where the wheel normally fits on both tires stays lined up and then they just place that in the back of a pick-up truck and drop the engine so the oil pan centers on the wheel hole, the engine weight compresses the two tires, the rubber cushions the engine ,just be sure to tie it off so it can,t slide on hard braking or acceleration or sharp corners
that way youll have zero dollars invested in transporting the engine and no damage to the pick up bed!

IF YOU CAN,T SMOKE THE TIRES AT WILL,FROM A 60 MPH ROLLING START YOUR ENGINE NEEDS MORE WORK!!"!
IF YOU CAN , YOU NEED BETTER TIRES AND YOUR SUSPENSION NEEDS MORE WORK!!

I brought an engine home a couple of years ago(500 miles away), by sandwiching the oil pan lengthwise with 2 2X12's long enough that I could run a couple pieces of all-thread on either end. Tighten up the nuts, then dropped that on some scraps of 2 by whatever, perpendicular to them and screwed them to the 2X112s. Ratchet- strapped the engine towards the front of the box, and away I went.

I confess--I've done it, too!

I once delivered a 455 Rocket 500 miles on a used tire!! The Rocket was tied to all four bed corners and centered. Didn't move an inch the whole trip

After talking to my mechanic, (he just has way more experience) we are not pulling the block and trans. We just plan to bolt the heads back on. So this complicates cleaning the block a bit. I ran new oil through it before disassembly. I will waste another oil change and flush fresh oil down the block head galleys.

What else can I do/check to this head blown gasket engine?

The heads are being planated and pressure checked. The heads needed one new valve and valve stem seals. A new set of lash adjusters are going in too. New head bolts are being used.
