And am wondering as I'm laying out the carpet and need to know what's the deal at the foot feed.......is the carpet supposed to have a slit cut in it and slipped over the pedal since there is no physical connection at the pedal to the actuator?
The reason I ask is because it doesn't SEEM to have ever been monkeyed with.

The pedal will easily come off of the floor bracket. It snaps onto 2 studs.

The pedal should snap onto two studs that are screwed into the floor. When installing the carpet, you can feel these two studs and you just cut two small holes for them. The pedal in your picture does not appear to be the original type.

Thanks guys.
From what I remember of my first '59, which was a loooong time ago, the pedal seems the same and I re-discovered HOW the pedal mounts in the meantime so it was off to the races.
I THINK the worst part is done.......I have an electric heater set up to warm the interior tomorrow to help the new molded carpet settle in.

I wouldn't mind farming out THIS job either.......

I'm not familiar with that bracket then. There should be two studs with rounded ends that the pedal is snapped on to. Just pull the pedal off and make small holes in the carpet for these two studs, but it looks like you figured that out already.

You are correct WSS.......that's just what it is.......

I didn't think this would get much attention so I will keep you posted.
I learned some tricks of the trade from my upholstery guy when he put in the headliner which are coming in handy now.
I still need some pointers and am hoping he will pay me a visit real soon.......maybe even this evening.
The carpet and floor pans were SO shot I had nothing to reference so have been looking at photos on the net trying to find out what lies where and how far.
If I get anywhere tonight I'll post more photos.......

My upholstery guy is coming tomorrow to help me out and give me some tips.
I have the carpet cut back so it lays at least.
Upholstery dude said to cut the carpet so about an inch lies under the sill plates so I have some cutting to do yet.
I'm going to have to cut a slit or two to get the carpet to lay better and glue it down but where it needs to be slit won't be noticeable but, anyway, this is where I'm at.
It's important that the front section overlaps the rear section.

My upholstery guy came over to install the interior trim that was removed when the pans were installed.
Just as well I as had matching trim pieces that were part of the interior kit I got from Ciadella's.
Upholstery dude was surprised to see how well the carpet fit.
Next........the front seat.
The new floor braces came with 8 little blocks of wood that were bolted where the seat gets bolted.
I asked Mike what was up with that and he said he'd never seen anything like that before so I pitched them and we wrestled the front seat into place and after a whole lot of jockeying around FINALLY got 7 cap screws in.
Then I got in the car to adjust the front seat and only one side would budge.......then I noticed it was trying to pull the carpet back along with it....... .......AHA........the 8 little wood blocks.......
Back to the drawing board but the front seat works now.

MURPHY........is EVERYWHERE.......

Cahartley, The pedal in your first photo is not the original 1959 design. It appears to be out of an earlier model Chevy. Here is a rather expensive, but VERY high quality upgrade to the original gas pedal. It fits perfectly, with no modifications. It does NOT pop off those studs like the original. You remove the studs, & a very sturdy hinge goes in their place. A matching brake pedal pad is also available. Some added "bling" for the 58-64! I put one in my '58, & was very pleased.

Thanks for that but this one is staying.......much more friendly IF one would need to remove it again which in my case is highly unlikely for a long LONG time.
It came off somewhat easier than it went back on.......I really had to mash it my foot to get it back over the studs.

On another note I got every last screw in today.......it's amazing how the door sills dress it up.......
