On my '90 Sub, w/a TBI 350 w/190K on it...this winter, I noticed that it would start and miss intermittently, or start and run like it was not getting enough gas, like say the filter was clogged. I assumed that it was related to the cold...it was 15 the first time that I noticed it.

When it acts like the filter is clogged, it is always only for the 1st minute or so and only when floored.

It does not run like it is not getting enough gas every time it is started, but it pretty much happens misses all the time, when cold...when hot, it does not do it. When I say hot, I mean that it has been at normally Op-temp for over 10 minutes. I go to town, 1.7 miles to the highway and when I get there it is at Op-temp, according to the temp gage. But, it doesn't stop doing it until another 7-8 miles.

It does it more when under load, and it seems like it stops doing it at higher RPM...like above 40 mph in 3rd and above 60 in 4th (truck 4 spd and 3.42 gears).

It runs better when warmed up at low, lugging rpm...even when not missing.

When hot, it does not act like it is starved for fuel, because I don't think there is an ignition problem. In the past year, I've changed there SP wires, plugs (they were old) and today the rotor (I popped the cap to look in there and nothing looked wrong, But, I changed the rotor for GP).

Clean the grounds at the coolant temp sensor by the
thermostat housing and read the FAQ's at the top of the 88-98 Fulsize forum for lots of help on these types of issues

I'd go one step further while at the water neck: change the temp sensor.

If you're quick, you can do it with a minimal amount of spillage. Just pack a bunch of paper towels around the sensor (cold engine, of course).

I'd check the fuel pressure when cold, and again when hot. Fuel pumps can be affected by cold also, although it is often on older pumps. If fuel pressure is down, replace the pump and or filter.

You may also want to check for water in the tank. IF there is a small amount of water, some fuel antifreeze will take care of it. IF it is a larger amount, it is probably better to drop the tank and drain it.

I checked my FP at the TBI yesterday...5-8#, depending on which time I tested it (that is, as the FBI says, a "Clue" ....fluctuating FP).

This morning, I changed the fuel filter. I only tested 2X, 5# at the filter's location.

I'd say that answers that question.

As a side note, a year ago I stopped at a yardsale, up the road. The guy was selling a box of filters and misc. 10 bucks. I got it because it had a tall truck airfilter in it...In addition to a bunch of other junk, it also had 4 Baldwin fuel filters in it. They fit my Sub and my Astro...SCORE!!!
