Great news! I just got a call from the owner's grandson. He was paid to tow my 1st time '50 Chevy out of the pasture today and parked it up next to the house. He said "come and get it, she's ready!" Perfect timing too! I'm on Spring Break from the school I teach and I'll have all week to shoot before pics and videos, clean out the nests, and begin the next chapter. I'm thanking the Lord that she's finally coming home after 16 years away!

Thanks 50sChevys. I finally started praying about it and asked for patience. I had just resigned myself to the fact that I may not be able to pick it up until this summer and that I just needed to grow up and deal with it. It's been hard putting it out of my mind. So, we went to church this morning for the first time in several weeks, I put some stainless moldings back on the 2nd time 50, and started getting cleaned up when I got the phone call. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw the name on the caller ID!

I'm gonna have to go slow from here on out or my wife will make me "go by the way of the dinosaurs"...extinct. Right now we're going through all our towing options as there is a three day rain coming Wednesday and my free tow isn't available until then. I may fork over $75 for a wrecker to go get it tomorrow. It's only a 14 mile tow.

Have you checked renting a trailer from U-Haul?

Yeah, I just checked. They don't have a car trailer available in my Zip code. Two years ago I had found a towing company that could do it for $75. I'm sure I can find them or another for a good price.

Thanks Jim! I thought for a brief second about taking up an offer of a free two-wheeled trailer tow, but decided against that. There might not be any lube in the axel and the rear bearings probably haven't been greased in 20 years. I don't want to burn anything up doing that!

Let's hear a big Woo Hoo!

I've been keeping my fingers crossed that you actually got it after all you have been through. I feel like I want to send the old guy a thank you card just to let him know we all appreciate saving the old iron, especially to someone with a history with the car. If you find some parts you need let me know as I might have them in the parts bin!

Yep! I'm hitting the bank in about 25 minutes and heading out. I found a reputable tow company this morning that will charge $75 or $80.

Fantastic! I'm looking forward to your updates as time goes on. Perhaps you could start a build thread on it, too.

Big sigh of relief. She's home. Long day. I'm beat. Here's what I accomplished:

1. Bought the car, $1600.
2. Pics and video--I'll do a build thread!
3. Stripped interior except front seat and headliner.
4. Front seat still held down by one rusted bolt; soaking over night in penetrating oil.
5. Front seat floors and trunk pan are SHOT.
6. Driver side rocker, door bottom, rear quarter SHOT.
7. Passenger rocker shot.
8. ALL glass is BEAUTIFUL. Car only has 44,000 original miles. 2nd timer has 96,000!
9. 3 tires hold air, spare in trunk is still BRAND NEW! Making the switch tomorrow.
10. Tomorrow we pull front seat, wiring, headliner.
11. Wore gloves and respirator mask for about 6 hours! More later. Thank you guys for all the wonderful support through this trying time. Seller was actually pleasant today! Best part: he never transferred the title over to himself, so all I have to do is apply for a lost title and pay no sales tax! It's as if I paid him to store it for 16 years!

Actually, its more like he paid you $400 for the pleasure of storing it for you if you consider he gave you $2000 back in 1998.

Congrats on getting her back. You are one of the lucky ones.
