I've been cleaning up my work and filling in seams with welding, grinding, and some hammer and dolly work.

I also cut out and replaced more bad metal on a door jam. Here is a before, during, and after.

I forgot the cut out pic. I'm proud that I actually fabricated and matched the bottom lip of the jam!

A little more progress today. I cut out the front driver floor, leaving a little extra steel on each side of the rib for strength. I then cut off the remnants of the front two floor rib ends, trimmed the rotten edge of the transmission tunnel back to good steel, did lots of wire wheeling and brushing, and finished fitting the new panel. The lateral brace for the seat bench was strong and I was able to save it too.

Fun evening. I really don't want to pay $85 each plus shipping for these. Let's see if I can make them!

Today I finished making the floor brace from scratch. It's not pretty, but it fits and it does it's job! Later, I started cutting out bad spots on the trunk pan. I am patching it instead of doing a full replacement!

You're welcome! I wish I could afford to buy them all. I'll probably buy the rest of the floor brackets. That first one was a huge pain and I'm not real happy with it, but I've been short on dough. I hope to order the front passenger floor and both toe boards as well.

The last few weeks have been slow. I have been fitting and re-fitting my floor bracket, prepping the under side of the car, and tack welding in the inner rocker panel. Welding upside down has proven to be very challenging and all my tacks look AWFUL. But that's why they invented grinders I guess. Pics later.

Thank you Sir! I should add, the discovery element has been pretty neat. As I go through the underneath side of the car, cutting away rust that is beyond repair, and re-fitting the new pieces, it has given me a deeper appreciation of how well built they are. What boggles my mind is how it is taking me weeks to accomplish what took mere seconds on the assembly line! I thought putting a new floor board patch would happen in one day. I was obviously forgetting about the weeks of meticulous rescontruction that needs to take place underneath the floor first!

The driver front floor is tacked in! And the front bracket is tacked and bolted in with a new bolt and new rubber body pad. Long day...

So I decided to try and rebuild the inner driver door bottom. The outer skin is in good shape. I'm trying to save all the money I can for EMS floor panels and braces. First, I used tape to pull the partially separated door bottom together, all the while checking alignment and gaps on the outside. Then I welded on temporary braces to hold the outer shape. Currently, I am halfway on replacing the bottom. Since it has a slight curve, I do it in small sections to fit the contour of the outer skin. I cut out the rust, not just cover it up. Pics:

More pics from previous post. Here I have started tacking in the small patches. I am using left over scraps from other body panels which also saves money! It may look like Frankenstein, but who cares? Upholstery will cover it and it is very strong. All the tacks will be filled in and ground down slightly. Pics:

Thanks Cleon! I plan to measure the locations from the other door. This door was so bad that I couldn't tell where they were.

That's good that you have the other door with the original drains. If you do it wrong the water could drain in to the car. Good luck on your project.
