Thanks Sir! Looks like "as of today" this car is now "on hold" until my daily driver is running again...

Still not much to report yet. I bought a house, got a garage over the cars, wired the garage, bought a mig welder, and am now saving money for an argon tank, and some sheet metal. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll start learning to tack weld on some scrap pieces!

Finally some updates!!! I have started learning to mig weld! Here are some pics. It's kinda sloppy, but I'm learning quickly after only about 2 hours practice.

More practice. I welded some hinges onto a metal shelve to make a fold out bench today. Also practiced tacking on some spare 22 gauge. I figured if I can tack 22, 16 will be easier.

This is pretty much going to be a Sunday evening only update until marching band ends in November. It was a good day. My welds are marginally improved but still needing practice. I took Bill Gommel's advice and am learning to weld on the floor so that mistakes can be fixed and hidden with the carpet. Today I tacked I a minor hole in the floor with 16 gauge, made final door gap adjustments and tacked in the driver side rocker outer rocker panel, and patched a small mistake when I first trimmed the rocker. Pics below!

It's not pretty, but as I improve, I will come back and go over it as my skills improve. I am on a tight deadline, wanting to have all the sheet metal "roughed in" and shot with primer before my 30th high school reunion next summer! So I am "learning as I go!" I know I will always have my critics on here, but I would rather dive in, make some fixable mistakes, and not waste 10 years talking about how I "should have done it". What's the fun in it not being a learning experience? Thanks for your support!

Nice progress, Tim! Just remember, "tight deadlines" take the fun out it and lead to shortcuts that tend to fail. Been there, done that!

Thanks for that advice Sir! I'll try to keep that in mind and see how this goes. I'm wanting to take about 4 or more weekends on this first panel so as not to be in a hurry.

I did my initial biopsy of the panel and started fitting the new one this week. As some have stated, the front quarter panel presents some challenges and is not a perfect match, but we figured out how to make it work. On the next one, I am leaving the old door jam untouched and butt welding out on the skin.

A few more pics from this weekend. Next weekend, I clean, prep, and Por15 the inner body, use weld through primer on surfaces getting welded, and install the new inner front quarter if it arrives.

Oh, and weld in a small patch for the edge of that wheel well!
