Well the time has come, My '63 fleet is finally being brought down to my new place. I bought it before finishing college and then getting married and having a kid put me about 7 years down the road and it seems like just yesterday i bought this hunk of junk
Well its still fairly solid, have a lot more rust issues to deal with but at least have the space for it now. I dont have a lot of time with the above mentioned but i have time to tinker. Ive written out my plan and broken it up into small projects that can be completed in a few days at a time. So instead of fix all rust in cab its just "fix one corner" and hopefully this way it will slowly come together. Its a '63 fleetside shortbed, custom cab, big back window. I was going to sell it for a while and never took the motor out but will be putting back either a 327 or a freshly built 454 that i couldnt convince myself to put in my nova. This truck is hopefully going to be a gift to my Dad in about 5-6 years as his retirement "fun" truck.
Ive been away from this forum for a while, but ive got my nova at a point im content "my daily driver will never be a show car" with a fresh motor and updated suspension and what not. Old paint job but no rust just looks unsuspecting the way i like it. Anyways ill be checking in keeping up with all the great topics and ideas and chats among like minded people!

Chevynovass,
Welcome back from a newbie to this forum. I like your plan for getting stuff done on the truck. I've taken a similar path with my '66. I don't have the space or patience to pull it all apart and do a frame up resto on it, so once I got it to being a driver, I've focused on "fixing" issues as time and money allow. That has worked well for me.
Good luck on your '63.

The truck's actually a Chevy though right? Just with GMC tailgate and hood? Can't really see too well in those pics but it looks like the dash hump over the cluster is Chevrolet; GMC's were more squared off and lower.
Looks like a good start!

Yes it is a chevy, per the tag was built just a few miles from where it was found in Atlanta Its entertaining because it has a chevy grill and a gmc tailgate makes me laugh so i figure i will keep it that way!

That is a GMC hood too, I think... as someotherguy mentioned.
Those curves on each side of where the hood latch is the difference.

The dash is absolutely Chevy and I can't imagine anybody would go to the trouble of changing one out. The tag on the inside driver's kick panel should indicate it too.

The tag decoded to 63 C10 with a 327 if i remember correctly. The 327 was long gone when i got it and replaced with an early 307. I had the fortune of living next to a performance engine machinist for a while so i was able to get some good stuff. If the plans stays to give this truck to my pops that means we will keep it and i will go 454, but if i start leaning towards selling ill just keep it a small block.
Ive tried to get my list together and it has ended up being many pages long. But going for original in the sheet metal department. Ive got a junked early 70's pickup to take the front end from and get some disc brakes. Id like to keep it a manual trans but maybe go to a 4spd instead of the 3spd its got now. For paint my nova in the shop now going back to the original light blue metallic and i will do the truck in the same color. Its going to be fun and take some years im sure but im looking forward to it. Luckily there is a lot of reproduction metal for the cabs available to make life a little easier. rockers and cab corners are first up, then some repair above the windshield. Gotta start somewhere!

The 327 was not available in the '60-'66 Chevy trucks, until 1966. Prior to 1966, the 283 was the only V8 option in the light-duty trucks or the series.
Good luck with the project and keep us posted on your progress.
