""Let me begin by saying that I've been lurking in these forums for the last 4 years since I purchased my 64 Chevy Impala SS. You guys are the most professional individuals on any board I've found.""
Hey guys,
Finally got the 348 3x2 up & running. Tomorrow she goes out for a maiden voyage & then her front end can go back on. Been a long time since the old girl has seen the road. Click on the video link below to watch.
The fan is an original 348 5 blade A/C clutch fan. It seems to be cooling pretty well. As far as the video, Youtube can automatically smooth out your videos for you when you upload them.
Yes it felt good to finally get her out for a little spin after all this time working on it. She's got almost 3 miles under her belt now. There are still a few small bugs to work out but the test drive went pretty good. I didn't push it, but it shifts good & seems to have plenty of power. Good thing the cops were on break at the coffee shop when I went by lol.
Can't wait to get the front end back on now. Here's a few pics from this morning after her maiden voyage.
Having watched a couple of your builds now over
the last few years I keep having the nagging feeling that like a television show you must have
50 people in a production staff that we never see
on camera helping you pull this off and of course
I realize its just one talented man and many hundreds of hours of hard work . Crongrats on closing in on another work of art.

Hey Ollie it sounds a little funny on the video but it doesn't have a vacuum leak. Maybe it was fan noise in close proximity? The end carbs are sealing well, and it idles good. But the vacuum cannister isn't installed so I haven't tried them yet. Besides... I don't wanna get tooooo wild without a front end on yet!
That is strange.... at first glance, the video reminds me of a jet engine with that whistle.
Or did you stick something in side the SD we can't see and shhhhhh don't tell - but look at Jens GOoooooooooo! LOL
Lookin' S W E E T !
Actually Ollie... since there's no planes flying overhead. You're probably right. It must be a secret weapon hidden in the back. lol.
Other than the tranny and the wheels, it is completely stock isn't it?
Don
Pretty much so Don. I think I'll end up going with an original 3x2 air cleaner as well. Finished working the engine compartment bugs out tonite while things were easy to get to. Now I can start on the front end. Barring any distractions it should be done within a month if everything goes well...
Hi verne,
That earlier video was taken during the cam break-in. We pulled it outside as not to smell up the shop with the nasty fumes from initial start up.
Here's a new video with it purring after the timing, dwell and everything was reset. It was getting late but I hope the sound is a little better on this one.
Very nice Jens. I know it's hard to get the audio to come our right on a video. To hear that nice rumble you almost have to put the microphone at the tailpipe outlet.
