Guys, I just recently bought a 62 Belair sedan with a 396. It doesn't have a fan shroud, but doesn't overheat and I have tested it here in 100*+ temps lately. I think it has an original type radiator as it is mounted using the original mounting points. The fan is about 19" and the clutch is an inch from the core. What should I be looking for? I know I will probably have to modify it some. Can't post pics, not allowed yet to do so.
Thanks,
Daryl (cwmoss)

Anyone can post pictures useing a 3rd party hosting site such as Picture Trail.
As for the 396 - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But if you do change things, find yourself a stock small block shroud. You will then want a fan / clutch combo that places the fan blades at the rear opening of the shroud for optimal air flow.
Once had a 62 SSthat I dropped a 396 into and tat's the combination I used (even had a 2 row stock radiator) and had no cooling problems.

Eric,
Thanks, I have been looking around for a 62 shroud, found one up around D-FW. It's not overheating at all, but would just like to have one. I figured someone on this forum might have done a swap using a 396.
As far as pics, I don't yet have permission to post. I've been reg. since 07, but am mostly a lurker.
Thanks,

Same here. On my '62 396, I used the original Small Block Fan Shroud along with the original Radiator and also had no problems, but I still would had liked to move up to a 3-Core.
