I rebuilt my rear suspension with new poly bushings. When I reinstalled the axle I had a difficult time connecting the panhard (track) bar. I had to use a tie down strap to pull the axle over slightly to get the panhard bushing to slide over the stud on the axle. With p275/60/R15s on the rear, I have a 1/4" clearance on the left and 3/4" on the right. I know I'm going to have to trim the wheel wells slightly to gain some clearance but I'd like to center it up first. Any ideas? Is it normal to have this variance from left to right? If I can center it up, with some trimming, I can get about 3/4" on each side. Enough?

You could get a Global West adjustable Pan Hard bar.
Global West Panhard bar
With that you can center your rear end perfectly. I have one on my car and like it.

I was just looking at those! Trimming the fender lip though is free. My rear springs are original and they do sag to the left where I have less clearance. I probably should replace those first and then see. This thing is nickel and diming me to death!

I also used an adjustable panhard bar from UMI. I was able to get the tire clearance exactly the same on both sides. It makes all the difference when running oversized tires.

Rear end moves Left to right as it goes up and down. Might check that with the springs removed.

Yup. Anytime the PHR moves from being horizontal it essentially gets shorter and pulls the rear to the left as it swings through its arc.
Definitley get it sitting level first. Then, with the weight of the car on the springs measure that the rear is centered in the frame - it needs to be fairly close to track straight. It might actually be that the rear is centered but the body is sitting wrong on the frame.

If I recall correctly my memory is excellent. My ability to access it is not.

It could be a little cocked on the frame. 1/4" doesn't seem like much until you start rubbing the sidewall off a set of new BFGs. I think I'll be trimming to gain some clearance.
