I see some of the vendors sell kick panels, no vents?
If not do the GM vents fit the new panels?

Sorry, yes the vents fit the repo ardboard panels. I don't know of anyone who makes repo vents but I had no problem finding an inexpensive set on ebaY. I think I have one spare I could give you, don't think I have both. I'll check tonight.

speaking of kick panels, has anyone installed the speaker/kick panels on their 59, if so, what's the feedback?

The speaker/vent panels fit OK, but the speaker portion protrudes farther than the originals. Not a problem on passenger side, but on driver side, it is very close to the parking brake pedal.
Here's a picture of the passenger side prior to taking the car apart for the restomod. I don't have a picture of the driver side. The "upgrade" speakers that came with the panels were kind of cheesy. I may not reinstall the panels when I put the new interior in the car. Will probably carry the door panel design into the new kick panels.

I was wondering about that also, the speakers. Do they sound OK?

I know they have 2 options, the more expensive ones come with Pioneer...only reason I'm debating (my stereo already sounds great) is because I'm not using any of the speaker outputs on my radio, all my 6x9s are driven by a hidden amp...so I figured why not get the panels, but I do not want to cut the originals....any one have the pioneer upgrade kickers?

We kept the stock vents (needed in Bakersfield!) and got the siameze dual speakers that go under the stock '59 grille. We are not audiophiles, just like to hear tunes and listen to Rush so those speakers are great. And we have 'noisy' timing gears, Turbo short case mufflers so couldn't hear fine audio anyway!

Just something to consider: if you're driving some of the speakers from an external amp and some speakers from the radio's on-board amp, you may get a slight delay (maybe a couple of milliseconds since it's all in the analog domain) between the amp-driven speakers and the radio-driven speakers. This may not show up as an audible delay between the two sets of speakers, but may show up as phase cancellation of some frequencies. The result may be that some frequencies may sound "thinner" than others.
The magnitude of the issue may or may not bother you, or may not even be noticeable to most people. This is the sort of thing that we recording engineers are always looking at to ensure the best possible sonic clarity and reproduction.
You might want to perform a test with some borrowed speakers connected to the radio's amp to see how it sounds before committing to the project. If it sounds good to your ears, then great. If it sounds a little weird, then ever-so-slight latency may be the culprit.
Thought I'd pass that along as food for thought.

Wow Delray
all kidding aside, that's pretty good info, does that apply even if the radio has a 'pre-amp' output? I noticed you are a recording engineer, where?
