Hey guys. I'm usually on the '65-66 fullsize forum but I've got a question that I was hoping a couple of you might be able to help me out with...

I go this crazy idea of using the stainless trim taht runs down the sides of the '61s on my '65 Impala wagon. Except I would switch the trim, using the drivers side trim on the passenger side and and passenger side on the driver side so that the front fender spears wind up on my rear quarters. I know there is the potential for some serious modification but I'm up to the job. I would like to get dimensions for both 2 and 4 door models.

Essentially, I'm looking for the lengths of the trim pieces:
-front fender spear length (from point of spear to door jamb)
-2 door door trim length (from front edge of door to back edge of door
-4 door door trim length (same as above but for both front and back doors
-Quarter panel trim length (from door jam to the "Y" connector piece where the upper and lower pieces meet)

If you couple of you with '61s could spare a moment and run out to your garage with a tape measure it would be greatly appreciated. I promise not to cut up and original trim if I follow through with this...I'll buy the repop stuff out of a catalog.

Thanks Again,

Steve

Hello Hosswagon,

For the 2 dr. ht:

Front fender spear - 50 3/16"
Door moulding assembled - 48 1/8"
Upper quarter moulding - 76 5/8"

These are the lengths of the mouldings not the body panels.

Bob

Bob,

Thank you very much! Your time is greatly appreciated.

If anyone is willing to measure their 4 door sedan and/or wagon trim that would be great as well. However, I think they only repop the 2dr hardtop trim.

Thanks Again,

Steve

Bob,

One more question if you don't mind...

What is the approximate length of "Y" shaped piece at the front of door moulding assembly?

Thanks Again,

Steve

Hey hosswagon, you're welcome.

The forward door moulding is exactly 23". There is a left and right side and they are common to all Impala models in '61. The front fender spear is also common to all Impalas. The only different lengths on the remaining models will be the 2 rearward front door mouldings, the rear door mouldings, and the quarter mouldings on the four door Impalas.
