Pretty sure my drive shaft is leaking on the tube that slips in the transfer case. There's fluid on it and the floorboard. The seal is good. Call a couple of salvage yards but they don't want to split driveshafts. Can I clean it up and fill it with silicone?
Keep throwing money at it, it'll get better...

I wasn't aware driveshafts contained fluid...

They don't. It slides into the transfer case. I think the fluid is following the splines of the transfer case shaft and leaking out the front yoke of the drive shaft. At least that's what it looks like to me. That would be a good joke though... kinda like blinker fluid.

Just replace the spline seal. It'll cost ya 'bout two bits.

Spline seal? Not the knock in one in the case that slides on the outside of the yoke right?

No,
The slip shaft has to move in and out of the case because of spring wrap travel and it has to be 'vented' (small round hole in the yoke) to allow air in and out.
However, it also needs to be sealed past the splines to keep the oil in the case.
So, a rubber star-shaped washer is used in the slip shaft to hold that oil 'forward'.
Here's a picture of a generic seal. The application depends the configuration of the driveshaft setup.

No. Vented yokes need to be vented. Non-vented yokes need to be sealed.

Didn't notice the obvious, plugs, man-made vent holes, anything like that. Guess I need to pull the driveshaft and take a look in the slip end and see whats going on. If it's suppose to be sealed, will a cleaning and a shot of silicone do the trick? I guess I should be concerned why it started leaking. The last thing I need is a driveshaft coming apart at 60 mph. What a mess....

A non-vented slip yoke would have to be extremely rusty before it vented itself, I would think. Both vented and non-vented have the same type of cap in the end. One just has a small hole punched in it.
The problem is most likely a seal in the transmission, like has been mentioned above.

Thanks. If I ever get some spare time I'll look into it further. It's not pouring fluid... yet.
