I have never used the rear support on a starter before but I think they put it there for a reason.
Where do you hook it up on the motor? Use one of the oil pan bolts? I dont see a bolt hole on the engine that would line up like the factory mounts show
Any help would be great , I would love to see pictures

There is supposed to be a small hole there for it. Is on all the blocks I worked on, but that only goes up to about the mid 70s for me. I don't know about later blocks.
I normally never used one bacause they can be a bear to put on.

You should always use one if you run a big original style starter. There's a hole in all the blocks I've ever used, but I haven't used many 86-up blocks with a big starter too.

there is a bolt in the side of the block but it is 4 or 5 inches away from the starter. Mine in a 350 / 290 crate motor. I would like to use one but I think i would have to fab something

An angle iron went up to a 5/16-18 hole just below the head gasket deck. My "small block" has more: bore, stroke, and compression so durn tuttin I use it to hold onto that 502 starter stator with the small block snout on it.
