I'm trying to identify what vehicle my Muncie transmission case came from. The date code indicates 1965 or 66. Where can I find info to decode the VIN on the case to identify the vehicle it came in?

that would probly be the undesireable 7/8 inch countergearshaft model...though i could be wrong.

Thanks for the above help.

The case has a 3885010 casting number and 1 inch counter shaft. This narrows the date to 1965 to 1967. The date code is P0204 which I think means the fourth day of february. Since the date code went to 6 characters in 1967, I think this 5 digit code indicates 1965 or 66. I could be wrong on any or all of the above.

My question is how to decode the stamped number 6K137137 on the case, which I assume is the VIN. I understand this number identifies the type vehicle the transmission came from.

That is the partial VIN number of the 1966 car it came out of. Has nothing to do with the transmission except for the year.

Also Tom, the K (Kansas City) plant made Chevelles and no B body cars, so your transmission is probably out of a Chevelle.
