Maybe he meant $16,500, but being a Ferrari dealer, his fingers were used to typing more zeros

Looks like a nice car. $165,000 No Way. Theres a lot better stuff out there if you had $165,000 to spend. I sure don't have that kind cash.

I am going to have to disagree with you guys. If this is a true SS with documentation to back it up, 165K, while a bit steep is not totally out of line. I'll bet there may be a few 1% ers who like to collect old chevys and 165K would be pocket change to be able to add a rare 61 SS convertible to their collection.
I looked at all the pictures and saw nothing to indicate it being an obvious fake. Looked to be a fresh restoration, lots of options, and even had the stock vacuum linkage on the 3 duces.
I look forward to hear opinons from the likes of Verne, Tommy, and other experts on the 61s.

Did you see the non factory power vent windows for 61? And if you noticed did you see a data plate on the firewall by the steering column? I couldn't. But 165k money.......I don't know? If I was serious I would like to see all the numbers for engine, trans, rear end, 3rd member, alternator, horn relay, and frame.

Seller also has ZERO feedback on eBay.
Someone should ask them for a crisp, non-blurry picture of the trim tag. Think they would oblige

yeah it's there where it's supposed to be under and to the right of the w/s reservoir. It's under the red "M" in pics 37 and 41. I had to blow the pic up in paint shop pro and you can barely make out the tag is there but you can't read anything on it. 61 cowl tags are a little tough to photograph since they're a little low and painted firewall/body color. It would be interesting though to read what's on it.

ABSOLUTELY, REGARDLESS of whether it is real or bogus, a 61 SS409 is my favorite, HT or conv. To me, a super nice 61 W-motored, 4sp, posi car with a straight body would be wonderful to own.
A couple of years ago I (thought) that I was going to finally get to buy a 61 Impala, 283/2bl 3sp which I've tried to buy for 25yrs. Didn't work out--------------AGAIN! I finally gave up. But if I could have bought it, it would start out with a SB400, Muncie, posi and crossed flag/SS emblems ----------------------- until I could round up a 409. And if I could afford it, it would also get a cowl plenum air cleaner. Bogus???????????????? sure it would be, but I don't care, that's what I'd love to own!!!!
And what I don't understand, is that NO ONE, NO ONE, NO ONE complains or b!t@h*s about my rust bucket 51 Chevy with a 383, Muncie, 3.08 posi and an UGLY under dash air cond that blows cold R12. What the heck is the difference????????????

Ya Tom, with the cars you have in your stable (the 56 Vette one of my all time favorite cars ever) I have been scratching my head wondering about that old 51 daily driver of yours. Must be a case of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Some might even qualify that car as a Rat Rod
Still waiting to hear comments about that particular 61 SS. Thought maybe someone might know the car and if it is authentic.
I agree with Tom, love the car real or not but the point I was makeing was it better be real to command the "Buy It Now" price.

While they do not say one way or another this appears to be the 350hp 348V8 based on the triple carbs and the dipstick location. We need to see the VIN and the cowl tag information to at least determine if it was a possible original. There are so many detailing errors without even seeing the underside the price seems out of line. For that price I would expect the correct windshield wiper arms, not '63-'64 style.

I don't particularly like the body or the thin front whitewalls on your '51, if that makes you feel better, Tom.

The 348/350 3X2bbl carb engine had the dipstick in a different location than the 348/280 3X2bbl carb engine?

Richard, From the information I have available I was refering to RPO 573B, 348/350 3x2 the largest horsepower for a 348 passenger car engine and the only 3x2 offered for the SS.
The reference to the dipstick was regarding the location on the drivers side rather than the 409 location on the passenger side.

Thank you for your response. Your dipstick location comment confused me because the seller said the engine was 348 so the engine being a 409 was already off the table.
