I have a 58 235 engine and 3 speed transmission to put into my stock 216 3 speed stock 50 coupe. Will the stock 50 clutch pedal bolt up to the 58 bell housing and clutch to operate the 58 stock 3 speed?

no, so there will need to be a plan for a linkage modification system that is strong enough to endure the powerful strains involved, and a certain amount of ball sockets, push-rods and grease-fittings.

I just put a 56 model 235 in my 51 reused the 216 flywheel , new clutch and pressure plate and the 216 bell housing and clutch linkage and the 216 tranny. I assume ( and thats dangerous) that the 58 235 will do the same thing. If you upgrade to the 58 transmission you will need to change out the rear end also as 58 is an open drive line where the 49-54 is a closed drive line called a torque tube. I'm sure that someone else knows if the 58 works in this scenario....Bill
Bill Wilson - 51 styleline Deluxe 2 door three speed , fentons and offy 2 carb manifold - is now a 235
Also a 1950 Chevy 2 door styleline deluxe, great patina , no running gear |

OK, everyone read and pay attention!!!
Six cyl and V8 throwout bearing fork geometry is the same in relation to the position of the ball stud for the fork and the movement of the throwout bearing.
THUS, whatever factory fork/linkage comes in the car (whether it is a 51 or a 55 or a 70), just use the fork/linkage for that CAR. A 1950 fork will just snap onto the ball stud. Sooooooooooo, if a 62 6cyl is installed in a 50 Chevy, or if a 75 350 is installed, you just need the 50 fork and linkage.
To install a later 235 or 261, into a 50, just use the existing flywheel, clutch, bell housing, fork and linkage. If you want to use the later flywheel/clutch then you will have to use a later starter because the early and later starters and flywheels have different teeth.

NO modifications are necessary to the clutch linkage when making the swap mentioned.

I don't go beyond 1957 in my books, but a thought for you to consider.
I do not know if the 216 disc will fit onto the 1958 trans input shaft. Splines may differ ?

Up through 1970, all tranny input shafts had 10splines.
In 71, MANY tranny input shafts had 26 splines.
The diameter of the input shafts stayed the same, only the number of the splines changed.
