I do have a call into VA for this same question but thought you guys might be faster. I have an electric fan with a relay, do the VA trinary switch with it's relay mean I do not need the other fan relay. So does the trinary switch turn my fan on and off when the AC is not on?
Thanks,
Charlie

No, the VA system does not supply a fan relay. The trinary switch won't control the fan relay unless the A/C is on. You will need a temp switch in the engine for fan control when the A/C is off.

Don, I just got a call from VA they said I should keep my fan relay hooked up and splice into the relay so either the sensor or the trinary switch could turn on the fan.

Makes sense.
If you're running a twin fan set up you can have the temp sender run one fan and the trianary switch run the other.

It's been a while since I wired mine, but I used one relay controlled by the temperature sender AND trinary switch to run the fan.

One relay works for a single speed single fan.
The temperature switch is going to ground the relay coil circuit. The other terminal on the relay coil should have +12V key on power. Wire the trinary switch to the same terminal as the temperature switch, and ground the other terminal on the trinary switch.
It gets more complicated if you want to run a dual fan set either with one fan at one temp and two fans at a higher temp, or as a two speed arrangement. Either one is going to take several relays.
