I'm about to throw some paint on my 69 Camaro and happen to have a nice set of Billet Shelby Hood Pins (below) from another project and am considering installing them on this. The car is metallic light/medium blue with a 4" steel cowl hood. It's not just a cosmetic decision, as this is a track car and I always feel a little safer at triple digit speeds when the hood is pinned down. I also have a little problem with the front right corner sticking up a bit and the pin will hold it down nicely. I will fill in the "Shelby" insignia with some silver to make it less obvious.

What is everyone's thoughts on hood pins these days? Yay, or Nay?

Yeah, Yeah... I know. For what it's worth, 99% of the people who look at the car will never know.

if it makes it safer just do it!
90% of the guys will never notice and if it works correctly what does it matter if it says SHELBY or NICKY, or DATSUN for that matter!
if anyone asked just tell them you use the best parts available and shelby makes better hood pins

You say that now, but when you're asked "Why do you have Shelby hood pins on a Camaro?" for the 100th time, you'll regret it.

People always notice the things you think they won't, I've found.

Gotcha. I'm sure I'll get some of that. But if it's at a show, the hood is up and nobody will see what it says. When the pins are in, I'm driving it and it'll just be a blur. :-)

I'll tell them "my daughter's name is Shelby. What's it to ya?"

Seriously, what do you all think from an appearance standpoint? Is it a dated look?

Once I drill those holes in my new steel hood, it's a done deal.

My favorite answer is "Because f@#k you, that's why".

Nah, hood pins are timeless on the right cars, Camaros being one of them. Especially if you go for a road racer look.

I would never put holes in a stock hood but since your's is aftermarket, I say go for it.

Those pins are pretty nice but if they've ever actually been installed on a ford, they have cooties and should be disinfected before installation on a Chevy.

This is the truth. The only way to properly disinfect them is to soak them in the used oil from a Big Block Chevy engine.

Maybe a little dated. They still "look" good, but from a functionality standpoint, I bet you better than 90% of cars that pin the hood down for one reason or another use dzus fasteners nowadays(sometimes just called quarter turn fasteners).

So yeah if you are doing the job for a purpose rather than show, most use dzus.

I used dzus also on my car(pin on fiberglass hood so I needed something one way or another).

Installing them properly takes a lil more work than doing hood pins right, but I personally like the fact that they are basically flush with my hood.

Bit the bullet last night and drilled the holes. No turning back now.

Thanks for the Input!
